Dr. Blackmon received her undergraduate degree magna cum laude at Troy University before completing medical school at the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine in Birmingham in 2008. She trained at Emory University and completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2014.

While she was away training, her grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and became a patient of Dothan Hematology & Oncology’s founding partner, Dr. Rafael Mayor.

Coming home to be closer to family, she experienced firsthand the importance of the doctor-patient-family dynamic. While she has taught, lectured, and published on topics ranging from bony metastasis to the effects of cancer on the heart to palliative care, it was when Dr. Blackmon worked alongside Dr. Mayor that she first felt she had truly fulfilled her grandfather’s legacy to her. She truly loves being back in the Wiregrass.

Board-certified in hematology, oncology, and internal medicine, Dr. Blackmon appreciates the ability to see patients week to week instead of twice a year, building long-term relationships with them during one of the most important times of their lives.

She is from a large family with deep Alabama roots. She enjoys reading, singing and attending church. She is an avid Alabama football fan and always appreciates a Roll Tide!
